There are more than 800,000 people in the United States currently living with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).  Of that total number, 69% are currently receiving dialysis treatments.

Dialysis is a treatment for individuals whose kidneys are failing. And for many patients receiving dialysis, it can become an endless cycle of time-consuming treatment sessions. 

Many patients commonly receive their dialysis treatments three days per week, every week, with sessions lasting 3 – 5 hours. These patients have a difficult healthcare journey given the amount of time associated with their dialysis treatments, their frequent travel to and from dialysis sessions, required diet changes, and numerous prescription medications they take.

Dialysis patients often have socioeconomic challenges as well. Oftentimes they face significant healthcare expenses that may not be fully reimbursed, such as higher costs for food items due to their strict renal diet, or transportation costs to receive their dialysis treatments. 

For these reasons, and many more, dialysis patients could certainly use a lift in spirits and community support.
