What is CSR and Why Is It Important?

Corporate Social Responsibility, also known as CSR, is deeply rooted in the culture of any successful company.  It is a positive impact initiative that businesses take to emphasize their ethical business practices and give back to the local communities around them.

CSR projects can generally be categorized in four ways: environmental responsibility, ethical/human rights responsibility, philanthropic responsibility, and economic responsibility.

Companies that keep philanthropic causes as a fundamental core in their business practices find that it not only creates a positive impact in the community, but can also improve brand image, employee retention, and gain customer loyalty.

Planning a CSR project for your company takes a lot of time and effort, so you will want to make sure you are equipped to meet your goals! Here are three tips to set you on the path for a successful give back initiative.

Tip 1: Plan a Project That Aligns With Your Company’s Core Values

So what do companies care about when planning out their CSR projects for the year?

First and foremost, CSR projects are designed for corporations to make a lasting and positive impact in communities, and contribute to society’s overall well being. But with so many options for charitable giving, where do you start?

Planning a CSR giveback begins with aligning your project with your company’s core values and mission, and then defining your overall charitable goals. You will need to decide if your project and CSR efforts will be based on a specific focus, such as humanitarian aid or environmental impact, or are you looking to reach a broader charitable giving goal, and perhaps emphasize employee volunteerism?

Defining what your charitable giving looks like can be many things, and will be different from company to company.

Once you have your CSR goals and mission defined, the next step is to decide on how to incorporate the passion of your company with giving back to the community.

This, too, can look a lot of different ways.  Some examples of CSR are businesses offering corporate matching for charity donations or planning hands-on employee volunteer weeks.

Of course, Cheeriodicals CSR events are always a great option and can also help you achieve your goals. We take a cause that is important to your company culture and help you make a real time impact.

Many of our corporate clients are rooted in specialty industries. For example, clients of ours within the biomedical industry may have a business model that is focused on, say, the development of treatments for cancer or medical imaging machinery. Their core values are typically science and patient ethics focused.

In an instance such as this, our Cheeriodicals team designs impactful events for these companies to give back to specific patient communities, such as oncology patients or dialysis patients. Through our events, companies are able to engage their employees through our hands-on team building experiences and make an unforgettable impact on people who are going through a very difficult time in their lives.

Tip 2: Plan a Project That Engages Employees

It is crucial to the success of any company that their employees feel valued and connected, and oftentimes this is defined through the culture of their workplace.  Having a strong corporate culture includes opportunities for coworkers to bond, socialize, and unite under a common mission or goal.

An easy and great way to engage employees is by incorporating CSR projects into the workplace. This can be through establishing employee volunteer programs and hosting philanthropic and charitable events at work.

Here are three ways you can engage your employees in your CSR initiatives in the workplace:

1) CSR Project at Your National Meeting

There’s no better time to make a corporate impact than when your entire team or major departments of your company are together.  The bigger the group, the bigger the impact – on your community, your employees, and your company culture.

See more about incorporating a Cheeriodicals CSR project into your National Meetings in our blog article here.

2) CSR Project at Your Corporate Office

Breaking up the work day to give back to the community is a highlight on corporate social calendars! Employees look forward to the chance to socialize with their co-workers and are excited for the opportunity to make a positive impact in their community.

Cheeriodicals offers flexible options for CSR events, so no matter where your office team is located, we can bring the impact possibilities.

3) CSR Project Virtually for Remote Employees

In a world where the remote workforce is becoming “the new norm” for many corporations, finding ways to engage employees that are working from home can be rather challenging. Choosing a CSR project that your employees can participate in together – regardless of where they are located – is not always an easy task but essential to keeping the team connected.

Cheeriodicals offers engaging virtual and hybrid event options, helping unite your company and further your impact across the country, and even internationally.

Tip 3. Let a Professional Plan Your CSR Project or Event

As much heart and effort that goes into charitable initiatives, planning a CSR project for your company can be a time consuming and daunting task.  Furthermore, without proper planning, organization, and/or connections, your efforts may fall flat or short of your goals.

That’s why we suggest getting help from experts in the field, and letting a company like Cheeriodicals help bring to life a meaningful and impactful CSR initiative for your company.
