Penny Publications (supplier of a variety of puzzle books and adult coloring books) has partnered with Cheeriodicals for the last 8 years to provide pallets full of activity books for our corporate team building events. We have loved the partnership! The activity books are included in our Cheeriodicals care packages which are donated to hospital patients with a unique purpose – to provide hours of entertainment to individuals who may be confined to a hospital bed for days or even weeks. These activity books provide a wonderful distraction for not only the patient but the caregiver sitting alongside the patient. We consider them a staple in our Cheeriodicals.

One of our favorite Penny Publication products is their wide variety of adult coloring books. Research has shown that adult coloring books reduce stress and anxiety, and generate mindfulness – the perfect “medicine” for a hospital patient.

Last year, while reviewing the contents of our Veteran’s Cheeriodicals, we realized we didn’t have an adult coloring book perfectly suited for a Veteran. There were many beautiful options from Penny Publications that included animals or flowers, but what we really wanted was a patriotic adult coloring book that would not only provide some relaxation but also express our gratitude for their service. We reached out to Penny Publications with the concept, and their team dived right in!

“It was only fitting that when Cheeriodicals reached out to us about developing an adult coloring book to be included in team building events benefiting VA facilities we jumped at it,” said Cheri McNabola, Director of Corporate and Institutional Sales with Penny Publications. “Working with Cheeriodicals to develop the theme of the new book, our designers created a 64-page adult coloring book that would include images and passages conveying gratitude and inspiration for the military service provided by our Veterans.”

The inclusion of the patriotic coloring books in our recent team building events has been amazing. We are thrilled at the thought of a Veteran who may have been in a VA facility for days or perhaps weeks, having a variety of items to provide entertainment and comfort during their stay – especially the patriotic coloring book which contains messages of gratitude in addition to inspirational images. Adult coloring books are regularly included in the donations ‘wish list’ for many of the VA Medical Centers, making this item even more perfectly suited to provide care and encouragement to our heroes. 

According to McNabola, “This project was particularly special to Penny Publications because the adult coloring books were going to end up in the hands of Veterans and be a unique way to acknowledge and say, ‘thank you for your service’.”

One of the first of these special events benefiting Veterans was sponsored by BAE Systems in November of 2020, during the height of the pandemic. Veterans Cheeriodicals including the newly printed patriotic adult coloring book were sent to 4 VA Medical Centers across the US, impacting over 500 Veterans around the holidays.
