Frontline Hospital Workers – Transition from Pandemic to Post-Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic was devastating across so many fronts in the US and worldwide.  According to the World Health Organization, more than 1.1 million people in the US, and more than 6.9 million worldwide, lost their lives to COVID-19 as of September 2023. Even more people have been affected by COVID-19 when you factor in family, friends and work colleagues of those impacted.

But it wasn’t just the patients and their loved ones impacted, COVID-19 strained the entire healthcare system in a way never seen before. Frontline hospital workers were working impossibly long hours in an environment where they were constantly exposed to COVID-19 at a time when a vaccine was merely a lofty idea.

In the early days of the pandemic, frontline hospital workers were affectionately renamed “hospital heroes” for enduring the long hours and emotional stress of treating the seemingly never ending line of COVID-19 patients. The non-stop news coverage of the hospital environment showed these hospital heroes in the extreme circumstances the pandemic created.  In addition to the doctors and nurses, the world learned about all the behind the scenes hospital workers needed to keep hospitals afloat: the vitally important security personnel, janitors, and administrative personnel. The concept of “it takes a village” was never more appropriate to describe the hospital environment during the first year of the pandemic.

As the vaccine and natural immunity reduced the number of COVID-19 patients seen by hospitals, the doctors, nurses and other personnel were able to go back to a more normal work environment. These professionals transitioned from being in the well-deserved spotlight to going back to executing their jobs without the attention.  And while we are sure that the hospital staff enjoyed having the spotlight and scrutiny moved off of them once the pandemic calmed down, we feel strongly that our hospital heroes deserve on-going positive attention and expressions of gratitude from their local community.

Cheeriodicals offers a creative way to gather your team together for a fun activity that shows our Hospital Heroes how much we appreciate all that they did for us during the pandemic, and continue to do for us all now.

The Cheeriodicals Event – Hospital Heroes

A Cheeriodicals corporate team building event brings together your team of 25 – 2,000+ plus employees to assemble Cheeriodicals tote bags full of items to make a hospital worker’s shift a little easier (nutritious snacks, water tumbler, pens, etc.) and items to help them relax when they get home (epsom salt for tired feet, tea and honey to calm the nerves, and an adult coloring book with colored pencils as a method of meditation).  Most importantly, each Cheeriodicals tote bag contains a note of gratitude from the team member who assembled the bag.

Cheeriodicals tote bags for frontline hospital workers includes comfort and care items to help them power through their shift as well as unwind and relax afterwards.

A Cheeriodicals event manager will oversee your team building event (often a 1 hour activity during a national/regional sales meeting) and guide your team through the fun and interactive process. After each member of your team assembles the Cheeriodicals tote bags, a subset of your team (5-8 people) will meet the Cheeriodicals event leader at the local hospital to donate the bags to the hospital staff in person!

A Cheeriodicals event that benefits Hospital Heroes is an amazing way of engaging your team in a corporate social responsibility activity, as well as provide the encouragement and support to our nationals Hospital Heroes that they deserve.

After a delivery of Cheeriodicals tote bags to Hospital Heroes at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta by Republic Services, the staff of the Emergency Department shared their gratitude for the donation:

“The bags and items inside are of such quality and were very well received.  It was great to watch the staff pick out a bag and get excited when they saw everything inside.  It is clear a lot of love and thought went into these.  It was a perfect treat to their day!”

Bringing your company together to make an impact in the community can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can plan for your team.  Not only do team building events encourage communication and new employee relationships, but when you give back to the community in a meaningful way, it also strengthens corporate culture and creates memories for your employees that will last for years to come.

In fact, according to the Centers for Creative Leadership, studies show that corporate employees are “prouder of, and more committed to” their jobs when their organization is focused on corporate social responsibility.  (Source: https://www.ccl.org/articles/leading-effectively-articles/your-workers-care-about-social-responsibility-you-should-too/
