Two Men and a Truck – Big Delivery in the City Beautiful

For more than a decade, Two Men and a Truck teams from across the United States and Canada have partnered with Cheeriodicals to pick-up and deliver completed cheer-up gifts to hospitalized children, Veterans, Ronald McDonald House families and others in need of a lift in spirits.  To date, Two Men and a Truck has delivered more than 160,000 of our big green boxes and bags of cheer to more than 100 markets in North America.

Those deliveries have been within a broad range of sizes, from as few as 40-50 Cheeriodicals to one hospital, to more than 1,000 Cheeriodicals reaching numerous hospitals/charities on a given day.  Every delivery matters, but sometimes the deliveries matter more because of the size, logistics and complexity of those deliveries, and of course, how many recipients are positively impacted by those deliveries.  Such is the case for our recent Cheeriodicals team building activity and delivery for Orlando, FL, the City Beautiful.

On June 17, 2024 in Orlando, our Cheeriodicals team led a team building event where a global company brought their team of 1,100 colleagues together for their yearly meeting. In partnership with Cheeriodicals, their goal was to bring together a large team to experience the benefits of team building while focusing on giving back. They aimed for the entire team to actively participate in a volunteer project, finding meaningful ways to make a difference locally in Orlando for those in need.

This corporation has a long-standing commitment to helping people battling cancer. For this reason, they requested their Cheeriodicals team-building event to focus on making a meaningful impact on Orlando-based cancer patients, both pediatric and adult, as well as providing care packages for their caregivers.

With the focus of the give-back team-building project determined, we now had to tackle the complex logistics of hosting an event for 1,100 participants. A particular challenge stood out: our team of event managers needed to move 138 extremely heavy shipping boxes full of supplies within a short timeframe to set up a room the size of a football field before the event. Although our event managers are experienced with pre-event room setups, this time-sensitive task required a reliable partner to ensure all the boxes were carefully unloaded and staged correctly throughout the room before the 1,100-person team arrived. Where did we turn?

We immediately reached out to our local Orlando-based delivery partner, Two Men and a Truck, East Orange County.  We had worked with their marketing contact, Blake Denz, on prior give-back projects in Orlando, but this one required some special attention, support and effort.  Blake stepped up to bring all the tools and resources together, just like always!

The Two Men and a Truck moving team, Joshua and Remy, arrived an hour early and were on the job waiting to dive in when we arrived. They first unloaded 14 pallets of shipping boxes, then moved the 60 pound boxes one by one until all 138 boxes were placed beside each of the 138 tables in the ballroom.  Not only did they move and set-up all the supply boxes, but they then asked if they could assist us with any of the other details we were organizing before the event started.  Simply put, they were life-savers for us!

As we introduced the team-building event and outlined the goals and objectives to the 1,100-person team, we also took a moment to recognize and thank Joshua and Remy in front of the massive crowd. The entire ballroom of volunteers expressed their appreciation with a heartfelt round of applause for these moving superstars. It was touching to see how humble Joshua and Remy remained during this moment of recognition, simply happy to be there and make a difference.

In addition to the volunteers packing the Cheeriodicals boxes and bags, representatives from both charity recipient facilities were on hand to personally thank the volunteers themselves.

After the event concluded, Joshua and Remy tackled the new task of loading all 138 shipping boxes, containing a total of 1,100 Cheeriodicals care packages. These boxes, with a cumulative weight of 8,000 pounds, were filled with cheer and happiness destined for patients and caregivers in need. It was a herculean effort, especially considering that just an hour earlier, they had completed the same process in reverse.

Once all the boxes were loaded onto the Two Men and a Truck vehicle—packed so tightly that there wasn’t an inch of space left—they departed from the hotel and stored the boxes overnight in their delivery truck.

The next morning, Joshua and Remy arrived bright and early to deliver the Cheeriodicals to AdventHealth for Children and the Orlando Health Cancer Institute distribution center.  They dropped off 200 Cheeriodicals to AdventHealth for Children at the hospital entrance, making it super-easy for the Child Life team at the hospital to receive this donation. The photo outside the truck shows the hospital’s excitement over the delivery and donation:

The hospital delivery team also enjoyed loading up the gift boxes and bringing them inside their lobby to prepare for distribution to all the kids. It’s such an exciting time to see all the boxes loaded and ready to be delivered throughout the hospital.

Nothing matters more than when we see those Big Green Boxes of Cheer in the hands of kids inside the hospital, when we see their smile come to life.  Here’s just one of the many smiles from that emotional delivery:

After the delivery to the children’s hospital, the Two Men and a Truck team delivered the remaining 900 Cheeriodicals (450 for patients and 450 for their caregivers) to the Orlando Health Cancer Institute distribution center.  By delivering to the distribution center, the Orlando Health Cancer Institute could safely store the care packages until they could distribute them where they were needed the most at their various treatment centers across Orlando.  We loved seeing Joshua and Remy posing with their biceps flexed after completing this enormous delivery.

We are always appreciative of our partnership with Two Men and a Truck because EVERY delivery matters, but this one was a special one, one for the memory books with remarkable impact.  The reason it was so impactful is because of its reach providing 1,100 smiles to 1,100 patients all battling healthcare issues.  This volunteer engagement event and its success would not have been possible without the amazing support and effort by Two Men and a Truck.  We extend our most sincere thanks to the anonymous corporate donor and to the outstanding Two Men and a Truck team, Blake, Joshua and Remy.  You are truly Movers Who Care!
